Nintendo DS games, along with the Wii, offer the most diverse range of genres and titles found on any gaming system. Therefore one must choose carefully from amongst the plethora of offerings. Listed here are a few titles you should definately consider;

The Legend Of Kage 2 is the eagerly anticipated sequel to Legacy of Kage, a definate cult classic harking back to the golden age of gaming. Taking control of the titular character, you can perform all manner of mysitcal and magical moves, including death defying jumps and comabt with your blade.

This title brings wildly fun and frantic action to the hand held medium. In addition to Kage you can play as his friend and she-ninja Chuhiru, who doesn't play all that differently but is a welcome addition all the same. Legend of Kage 2 brings hackn' slash action to this new age in a package well worth experiencing.

Next up we have another title from a well established and classic series, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. The famous side scrolling franchise returns to the DS with style and implements a few welcome changes along the way.  In this installment, Dracula has returned once again and it's up to new hero Shanoa to put this evil to rest.

Shanoa can kill enemies and absorb what are called glyphs. Glyphs can be melee weapons or spells ranging from swords and lances to elemental control. These differing abilities can be interchanged throughout the adventure to deal with differing enemies. This especially applies to different scenarios presented in each boss battle. The boss battles are strenuously long and extremely difficult, yet very rewarding.

Order of Ecclesia is widely considered the best Castlevania game in years, and is a DS must have whether you're a die hard Castlevania fan or a newcomer to the franchise.

51iThGjmvKL. SL160 DS Games You Must Own

Chrono Trigger is our last choice, a re-release of the original SNES game. This title made its fame by introducing time-traveling innovations, as much of the main and side quests are accomplished by journeying into the past and taking action that manipulates the future to your advantage.

Combat in Chrono Cross is not initiated by random enounters. Instead, you can see your enemies, and if possible find ways to sneak around or avoid them. The combat system also allows your three forefront party members to attack seperately or together for deadly assault combinations.

As with most other RPGs, Chrono Trigger offers an immersive and epic story, expanding on the original quests and offering a range of new material. Multiple endings await players depending on the choices made throughout the story, allowing for much replay value.

So there you have it, three Nintendo DS titles that are definite musts for any player!

Wii Must-Have Games!

Need some gaming inspiration? Try picking up these hugely popular games for the Wii

#5: Medal of Honor: Heroes 2

518zDl%2BEA2L. SL75 Wii Must Have Games!

Medal of Honor has always been lauded for bringing gritty realism to the first person shooter, and this outing on the Wii makes no exception. The game features online multiplayer and two single-player modes: Arcade and Campaign, both boasting fast-paced and highly replayable WWII shooting action.

#4: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

51 sTAVzeFL. SL75 Wii Must Have Games!

The newest Zelda is bigger and better than ever before. The new visual style harkens back to the N64 games, with realistic character models and environments, versus the cell-shaded ones in Legend of Zelda: Windwaker on the Gamecube. Add to this an unbelievably huge and immersive world, cinematic presentation and an epic storyline, and you get yet another legendary Zelda game.

#3: Mario Kart Wii

51PYW1FCetL. SL75 Wii Must Have Games!

Since the hazy days of the SNES, Mariokart has been a fan favourite throughout all the ages and incarnations of Nintendo's consoles. Renowned for its deep combat-racing gameplay, the Wii remote's motion controls are surprisingly well utilized for this game. Those die hard fans of the old format can still use Gamecube and Classic Controllers however. Another fun feature worth mentioning is the ability to transport Mii's onto the game and using them as racing characters.

#2: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

61hsaXfwE3L. SL75 Wii Must Have Games!

Smash Bros. is commonly recognized as one of the best fighting game franchises ever, and Brawl is no exception. The game's multiplayer is for up to four players, all of which are dropped on a two-dimensional "stage",  the objective being to send all the other players flying off. The roster itself offers videogame classics; If Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog were to face off, who would win? Now we can find out.

#1: Super Mario Galaxy

51tPCaGMWCL. SL75 Wii Must Have Games!

Mario returns, bringing with him a platformer many are claiming to be the best yet for the franchise. The graphics are some of the best the Wii has to offer, and the gameplay features new and innovative mechanics. The most prominent of these is the planet physics that take place as you leap between floating spheres and other objects in outer-space. This and the spectactular visuals showcased in each of the game's fabulous worlds make this a title you cannot afford to miss.
All the above titles are perfect for either playing alone or getting together with your friends for a gaming session, with the multiplayer options offering hours of crazy fun!

Wii’s Best Combat Games

Wii's Best Combat Games

want to know you're choosing the right fighting game for your Wii? Check out this list of the top five and make sure you've got your moves ready!

#5: Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus

61n6UF0u0qL. SL75 Wiis Best Combat Games

The 2-d style of beat 'em ups has always retained a cult status in this age of 3-d fighters, and with this game it is easy to see why. Though the game's anime-style characters can be over-the-top in appearance and nature, the goofiness only adds to the fun. Just be sure to hook up a Gamecube or Classic controller. If you're going to play in the classic style you need the classic pad, right?

#4: Naruto: Clash Of Ninja Revolution 2

516ZBPeNebL. SL160 Wiis Best Combat Games

Viewed as something of an expansion on Naruto's first outing on the Gamecube, Naruto: Clash of Ninja: Revolution 2 brings the action to the Wii, and a host of welcome additions with it.
The ability to use use hand signs to built up energy without even attacking, as well as being able to wrap a exploding spell scroll around a kunai knife before throwing it (resulting in a successful "letter bomb") are very welcome additions, although partly because they simply should have been there in the first place.

In any case, it's certainly a worthy installment in the series, and deserves to be checked out, especially if one has not played the first, and even more so if one is a fan of Naruto.

#3: Mortal Kombat Armageddon

51X6r8yaRmL. SL75 Wiis Best Combat Games

The pioneer of the violent fighting game, Mortal Kombat has always led the pack when it comes to combining awesome gameplay with cringeworthy violence.

Viewed as the final true Mortal Kombat game using the current universe and characters, Armageddon boasts over 60 kombatants as every single character since the first ever game make their appearance for the final showdown. Take the violence to the next level with the racing and conquest mini games!

#2: Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3

61GzxfAFK2L. SL160 Wiis Best Combat Games

The latest and best Tenkaichi game also happens to be simply one of the best fighting games on the Wii yet. The reason for this becomes clear when you understand the nature of the gameplay.

The real beauty of this game is in the multiplayer option, which sees over 200, yes 200, playable characters available to enter the fray, each with their own set of skills and moves, definitely no mean feat!
The 3-D open-stage battles make this the future of fighting. There are so many things to do and places to be in each stage, (not to mention the amount of characters you can be) it's highly improbable for the exact same thing to happen twice. Talk about replayability!

1#: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

61hsaXfwE3L. SL75 Wiis Best Combat Games

Super Smash has been a wildly successful franchise so far, and this instalment cements its reputation as one of the most fun fighters around. Brawl could be compared to Guilty Gear, only with slightly more realistic visual effects and attacks. But what really makes Smash Bros. so unique is it's fighters, which are based on renowned videogame characters. Want to see Solid Snake beat up Sonic the Hedgehog? Then look no further!

Wii Sports- Why so popular?

January 29, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Wii Sports- Why so popular?

Originally shipped as part of the Wii package, Wii sports has become a runaway success for the console and the poularity has grown and grown. Owing huge success to the content and playability rather than graphical edge, Wii Sports is so popular due to the dynamic and interactive gameplay.

For example, to hit the ball in the tennis game, one merely swings the controller to the left or right. One does not have to fiddle with a small controller pad to play the game. To hit a  baseball, one holds the controller similar to how one would hold a baseball bat. This is the most realistic game play we have ever seen for sports video games.

The games included are tennis, baseball, boxing, bowling, and golf. The boxing game requires a separate "nunchuck" which plugs into the controller.

All games include training, standard play, several multiplayer choices, and the ability to create your own characters.

The training allows one to hone in on one of three different actions for each sport. Just as in real life, training or practice helps to improve your performance. In tennis, one can focus on returning the ball or placing the ball within a specific area. In baseball, one can practice pitching or batting. Boxing training is useful for learning how to duck and weave and throw your punches at just the right moment.

Single player mode involves competing against the computer in order to gain experience points, which are in turn utilized to raise your level.

The multiplayer option allows two, three, or four players to compete against one another. This is Wii Sports at its most immersive and rewarding. Its one thing to pit your skill against a challenging computer player, another to play with living, breathing people whose real-life movements (as well as yours) directly correspond with onscreen gameplay. Of course, each player must have his or her own controller.

With Wii Sports, you can create your own characters and save them for later use. To create your own character, one simply starts with a character from the "Mii channel". The character can then be customized to one's own liking. Some of these characters can be used in games other than Wii Sports.

Many gamers enjoy saving their Wii Sports characters to the Wii remote controller, and will take them to a friend's house, and insert the character into the game at the friend's house. This adds greater personality to the gaming experience.

With raving reviews and even a few awards in the bag, Wii Sports remains THE game for the system.

Bestselling Wii Games to look out for

January 24, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Top Wii Games

When you are looking for a good Wii game to buy, it can be hard to distinguish between the genuinely good games and the cheap cash-ins that unfortunately plague the Wii system for the time being.

61UUwCpgc2L. SL160 Bestselling Wii Games to look out for

First up is Animal Crossing: City Folk. This is the fourth in the Animal Crossing series, and the second on home consoles.

The Animal Crossing franchise drops your cute little avatar in a small town where you work to pay off  house loans and collect items, money and accessories. While in most games time moves only while you're playing, this is not so in Animal Crossing. Due to the incorporation of the Wii's intergated calender and clock, the game world exists in real time. After a few months of not playing, you may come back and find weeds and garbage everywhere due to your lack of maintenance. In the world of Animal Crossing, events occur whether you are there to experience it or not: even holidays. This is a great and innovative feature which adds to the overall playability of the game.

City Folk adds online support so you can travel to other people's towns, as well as host auctions that your friends can participate in. Also, being the Wii version of the game, you can replace your character's face with that of your Mii. Even though Animal Crossing: City Folk recycles much material from the past games in the series, it is still a great game with lots to do and see, especially if you are new to the franchise.

51rRPLtfVuL. SL160 Bestselling Wii Games to look out for

There is a recent platformer called DeBlob that has been hailed as one of the best 3rd-party developer games on the Wii. The premise is a unique one: Chroma City has been turned into a bland, white-and-black landscape by the oppressive INKT Corporation. The fate of the city is in the hands of De Blob, a blob that can dip himself in paint and splatter color about, successfully painting one building at a time until Chroma City is completely liberated.

The story unfolds in a cute and imaginative way, seeing the player move from area to area completing missions and smashing open "paintbots" to absorb paint points. The more paint points you have in your possession, the bigger De Blob is and the harder he is for enemies to defeat. The game also features up to four-player competitive multiplayer, adding to a unique and intuitive experience.

51YqhBzMA6L. SL160 Bestselling Wii Games to look out for

Lastly, a hugely successful Wii game is Guitar Hero World Tour. World Tour is the first Guitar Hero to feature online multiplayer and downloadable content.

As with other Guitar Hero games, the objective is to play through songs and press buttons in time with the notes. The game can be quite expensive to play, requiring up to  three expensive peripherals: a plastic guitar, drum set, and a usb microphone. However, the global success of World Tour proves this is definitely worth the price.

Not only does World Tour feature what no other Wii Guitar Hero has yet in terms of online play, but it also features an exclusive mode called Mii Freestyle Jam. In this mode, players choose a Mii and rock out, jamming and switching between note levels by raising or lowering the guitar or drum peripherals. Also, drums can be played in this mode with a Wii Remote and Nunchuk.

Though some may consider Guitar Hero: World Tour something of a clone of Rock Band, World Tour has proven itself superior in terms of song setlist and features.

Xbox 360 Games worth a look!

January 24, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

The top Xbox 360 Games

Though the Wii is currently winning the console war, there are now more Xbox 360's in more homes than ever before. As the price of Microsoft's console decreases, there has never been a better time to go out and get one. If you have, consider trying out one of these bestsellers;

511hZxe3J2L. SL160 Xbox 360 Games worth a look!

First up is Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. Perhaps you don't remember the bear and rooster's first outing on the N64. Either way, Nuts & Bolts should be a refreshing and unique experience. While the original B-K had you traversing the landscape collecting treasures, Banjo and Kazooie are getting a bit old for that now. So instead, they gather what are called Jiggies, in order to build vehicles in which to quickly navigate the game's large world. The pieces that Banjo would usually be spending all his time searching for are scattered all over the world, but the collection of these pieces is merely optional, and takes a back-seat to vehicle-based missions.

The vehicle creation is easy yet in-depth. The player can build all kinds of land and air contraptions with anything possible from a tank to an airplane. It's even been showcased that you can make a legged robot with springs for feet. The possibilities are endless and all up to you.

51qRZ1TmsxL. SL160 Xbox 360 Games worth a look!

Next up, believe the hype, it's Fable II. The Fable franchise could be described as a more easily accessible version of Elder Scrolls, and features a surprisingly story-oriented main quest, utilizing massive freedom to explore all on your own.

Part of Fable II's runaway appeal, and a testament to the game's long development time is the pet system. Interestingly, your dog will not do whatever you tell it to, and especially not right away or all the time, reflecting the real life unpredictability of animals. You can prompt it to attack, or distract, or point out where something is, but often the dog just hangs out and follows you around.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the pet system is how it incorporates into your morality system. In Fable II, if you make good decisions you become holy, and after a time your appearance could even begin to resemble that of an angel. If you make evil decisions, after a time your character will start to turn dark and demon-like, sometimes developing horn growth. These changes not only effect you, but your pet also. If you are evil, your dog is evil, and vice versa, and your appearances evolve together.

What it comes down to is that Fable II is a fantasy sandbox-style game with plenty of areas to explore and things to do as you interact with the people and monsters of the game's world.

514Ec9fS6GL. SL160 Xbox 360 Games worth a look!

And then, finally, there is Gears of War 2. The GoW franchise is something of a competitor with the PS3's Resistance series by Insomniac. While the first Resistance was hailed for it's solid first-person shooting action, Gears of War has quickly become considered near classic due to it's over-the-top battles and cover system. GoW 2 not only perfects the cover system and allows you to cling more closely and accurately to the environment than before, but improves on the action in almost every conceivable way.

The weapons are more balanced this time around, and have seen some new additions: the flamethrower, the mulcher (a high-power chaingun) and the mortar. Grenades can also now be used as proximity mines and gas grenades.

In Gears of War 2, close-combat is the most intense of all. When you knock an enemy over, you can beat and stomp, snap his neck, or lift him up and use him as a human shield. When two enemies collide with a chainsaw, both must repeatedly press the B button until the other is defeated.

It may sound like a very gruesome game, and it is, but GoW 2 features an optional content filter that will cut out swearing and gore, making the franchise more accessible than ever before.

Most Anticipated Games of 2009 Part 2

January 22, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Here at Video Game News Blog we have been trundling the web to bring you what we think will set your gaming experiences in 2009 on fire! Here is the second part of our Most Anticipated Games of 2009.

Ghostbusters (Windows, Xbox 360, PS3)

41JI1BW9t0L. SL160 Most Anticipated Games of 2009 Part 2

Dan Aykroyd? Check. Bill Murray? Check. Harold Ramis? Check. Ernie Hudson? Check. What more could you want? The original Ghostbusters from the cult 1984 film of the same name are here in what write, Dan Aykroyd, describes as “essentially Ghostbusters III”. The story for Ghostbusters the game is written by the writers for the film, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. The best part of the game is you get to join the Ghostbusters a new recruit, testing out Egon and Rays new equipment. The story is set 2 years after Ghostbusters II and with the original creators and writers, as well as the cast, this should definitely be a worthy Ghostbusters storyline. The reason this game is on the list is two-fold, I am a Ghostbusters fan and also this game nearly didn’t make it on to the shelves. After Activision and Blizzard merged, Ghostbusters was one of the games to be dropped. Luckily Atari where there to step in and to publish the finished game. Just remember, don’t cross the streams!

Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

What would a Sony console be without a version of Gran Turismo released for it? Not a very good one. So far the PS3 has had the lacklustre Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, that at first whet our appetite but in the end just became a visual feast more than a next generation driving simulator. Gran Turismo is stated to having near photo-realistic graphics and superb attention to detail with the cars (this I can believe, as in an interview with Polyphony Digital they said it takes a minimum of a week to model just one car) and unparalleled driving physics. Could this really be the Real Driving Simulator the series claims to be.

Halo Wars (Xbox 360)

51RSFYwv85L. SL160 Most Anticipated Games of 2009 Part 2

The success of the Halo franchise on the Xbox and the Xbox 360 has rocketed Microsoft into one of the leading console manufactures and publishers. Halo 3 was one of the fastest selling games of all time. Now, Halo is taking a new direction into the realms of Real Time Strategy with Halo Wars, developed by Ensemble Studios. This Xbox 360 exclusive sets to change the way RTSs are played consoles and to change the opinions of RTSs belong on a PC with a mouse and keyboard. Halo Wars has a huge chance to be a massive success in 2009, with the popularity of Halo being so great, but also this is Ensemble Studios last game and they will want to go out with a bang.

Final Fantasy XIII (PS3 and Xbox 360)

41VQrSrHLpL. SL160 Most Anticipated Games of 2009 Part 2

The most shocking news of E3 was when Microsoft and Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XIII will be coming to the Xbox 360 in North America and Europe. Barring all flame wars on whether this is a good thing or not, Final Fantasy XIII will still be a great game and one of the most anticipated games of 2009. The success of the Final Fantasy franchise in the western world started with the release of Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation and with XIII being released on the Xbox 360 in the West will mean more people will enjoy the delight Square Enix will produce. No doubt the graphics will be breathtakingly superb and the story, as with so many RPGs, will be full of twists and turns, as well as heart stopping moments. Final Fantasy XIII has all the makings of being one of the best games of 2009 and will be set to delight JRPG fans around the globe!

Diablo 3 (Windows)

41jywROj7rL. SL160 Most Anticipated Games of 2009 Part 2

Blizzard again grace the most anticipated games of 2009 list, this time with Diablo III. The secret project they were working on and us fans were hoping was coming, was finally confirmed at 2008's BlizzCon to massive rapture. Gamers will be delving into the depths of Hell to battle demons and the like to end the madness that plagues the Diablo world. Three of the five classes in Diablo 3 have been unveiled so far - the Barbarian, Witch Doctor and the Wizard - and this time players can choose the gender of their character as well. The graphics have taken on a massive overhaul from the last incantation and the art direction looks super awesome (though that is a matter of opinion and various petitions have been created to make it more "gothic"). Blizzard again look to have a sure fire winner with Diablo 3 and it is sure set to entertain me in late 2009.

Anticipated Games of 2009 Part 1

January 13, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

2008 was one of the best years for games to date (we always seem to be saying that year after year...) with releases like Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3 and many more. Will 2009 trump 2008? Let's see what the competition is shall we?

Starcraft II (Windows and Macintosh)

41i8LuZ 5tL. SL160 Anticipated Games of 2009 Part 1

StarCraft fans have been anticipating this one ever since the first instalment came out in 1999. StarCraft pushed the RTS boundaries with deep story, balanced gameplay and its pure addictiveness. It had three vastly rich races and near limitless potential for strategic variations. It is still played today extensively, especially in South Korea where they are Blizzard crazy. The second instalment to the series looks set to blow RTS and StarCraft fans away. Blizzard has an extremely good record for releasing games, with none of their games being a bad egg. They are now putting the finishing touches to their sequel with updated graphics, new unit types and abilities and a new improved online system. This is a mostly anticipated game indeed.

Killzone 2 (PlayStation 3)

51U7kuBXD4L. SL160 Anticipated Games of 2009 Part 1

Killzone 2 is one of the hottest First Person Shooters of 2009. This follow up to the original on the PS2 has broken the boundaries of what is possible graphics-wise on the PS3. In a couple of words it looks freakin' awesome! I was lucky enough to snag a view at it at the London Games Festival where they were showing the Beta build (I think - sorry I can't remember fully). From first looks it was simply stunning. Killzone 2 doesn't follow the mantra of previous FPSs, Guerilla Games have implemented a cover system that allows for a more tactical approach to your play and will give you time to plan your next move. They have also built an extremely engrossing atmosphere, with the crackle and pop of machine-gun fire and other sounds from the warzone. Clever AI will keep you engaged as they try to flank you or rip to shreds your cover you thought was safe. If you are a PS3 owner, this is an absolute must have.

MadWorld (Wii)

51BUJfrLssL. SL160 Anticipated Games of 2009 Part 1

This is arguably the most promising Wii game of 2009 as well as being one of the most bizarre looking games, it lives up to its name. The look of the game is its most distinctive feature. It looks like the world of Sin City, with black and white being the sole colours most of the time. The games is based around a deadly game, called Death Watch, which has sprouted up because of an outbreak of a deadly virus that has forced Varrigan City, the setting for the game, into quarantine and chaos. MadWorld sees you fight to the death in battles to win the ultimate prize in Death Watch, your life. The concept of this game echoes Battle Royale, and with its brilliant art direction and, as ever with the Wii, it will have a very unique control scheme. Hardcore gamers have been waiting for a 'hardcore' game for their Wiis, could this be it, i think so.

madworld thumb Anticipated Games of 2009 Part 1

Star Wars: The Old Republic (Windows)

Star Wars Galaxies had lots of promise before it was released. Initially it delivered on that promise, to deliver a believable online world in the Star Wars Universe. Unfortunately they ended up messing it up by changing the core dynamics of the game, which made the game a challenge and fun to play, and ultimately lost subscribers. But all is not lost on the Star Wars massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), in conjunction with BioWare (RPG masters), LucasArts have revisited the times of the Old Republic and turned it into one of the most anticipated online games of 2009. Because the times of the Old Republic haven't been written about as much as the times around the six films, there is a lot of scope for a very exceptional story in Old Republic. One of the interesting features of the Old Republic is that every decision you make whilst you complete quests, will affect the outcome of your character and the story, and this cannot be changed. You have to live with your consequences, as you fall into the dark side or rise to the light side.

REVIEW: Prince of Persia (Multiplatform)

January 5, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

The Prince of Persia games have been around since the days of the Apple II and have graced previous generations of consoles like the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The last reincarnation of the Persian Prince on these platforms were fantastic. The first Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time was a platforming gem, whilst The Warrior Within took the fighting mantel. Lastly the Two Thrones melded these two important elements into one great game, finishing off the story brilliantly.

Now the Prince is reborn on the new generation of consoles with the Prince of Peria on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the trusty PC. The Ubisoft team have gone with a completely new art and graphical direction, with the game looking like a beautiful painted canvas. The new cell shaded design is an instant win, for me, and the new Prince and his sexy side-kick Elika both look stunning.

51CNI7vt02L. SL160 REVIEW: Prince of Persia (Multiplatform) 61FrM4VWqGL. SL160 REVIEW: Prince of Persia (Multiplatform)

The basic story premise is Elika's father and ruler of the kingdom destroys the Tree of Life, which contains the God Ahriman. With the Tree of Life destroyed, Ahriman begins to infect the kingdom and its lands with Corruptions. It’s the Prince's and Elika's job to heal lands known as fertile grounds to restore power back to the Tree of Life and stop the evil god Ahriman escaping. Nice and simple!

You as the Prince has to jump, swing and do your usual platforming tricks to get to where Elika has to use her magic powers to heal the fertile grounds. When I first started I expected to be doing the many button platform moves that engrossed me in The Sands of Time, however, I was met with the same style of "platforming" as in Assassin's Creed, which makes platforming more like the gimmicky quick-time events that plague most video games these days and takes away the skill needed. This did not impress me! To do a wall run and then jump to an opposite ledge, all I had to do was press X (yes I'm playing on the PS3....), then wait till he got near to the platform I am suppose to jump to and press X again. Also, the places where you are suppose to wall jump are nicely marked out for you with what looks like cat scratches along the wall. To be brief, I am not happy with the platforming element one bit! But I will say the animations are superb.

Moving on, once you reach the healing place in the fertile ground it is time to do battle! Each fertile grounds has a sort of boss which you have to fight and kill to allow Elika to heal the grounds and restore power to the Tree. And here is where my other moan is. After the great fighting you could do in The Warrior Within, we get this drivel!! Block....keep blocking, right my turn, gauntlet attack, sword attack the Elika's magical attack then repeat. Fun I say in a sarcastic tone. Yes you can mix it up a bit more and unlock new moves and attacks, and there is the odd God of War style button mashing element, but really it is a pathetic attempt by Ubisoft, again in the mould of the repetitiveness of Assassin's Creed. The enemies are different and do have distinct attacks, but when they do attack all you have to do is press block, then do which ever combo you have memorized.

Once disposed of the enemies its time for Elika to heal the fertile grounds. Once she has performed this piece of magic, you watch as the plagued lands and corruption that resides there is destroyed and the groun transformed magically back to its fertile state. Honestly, when i first saw this, I thought it was majestic. Once the lands have been transformed back to their fertile state, you notice orbs floating around the fertile grounds. These are light seeds, they are what Elika (you really) need to open up new grounds for you to heal and also you can improve Elika's magical powers and your own skills.

With your task complete it is now time to move on to the next fertile ground to heal. Fortunately the ever so helpful Elika has another useful trick up her sleeve. She provides you with a Fable II style compass, but unlike Fable II's disappears after a few seconds. Don't know why they didn't leave it on permanently. Oh well, a little more on Elika! Elika is important to the Prince, as whenever the Prince is in trouble, for example you thought you were playing the Sands of Times and thought you had to do proper platforming but finding yourself tumbling to your death, Elika pours out a magical hand that grabs you and pulls you back to your original starting point of the jump you messed up. Nothing like the rewind ability in Sands of time one bit.... Also she is there to help you jump further with a quick tap of the triangle button or Y button i presume for 360 gamers. She also elaborates on the plot of the story more as you have the ability to talk to and understand more about Ahriman, the Tree of Life etc.

Overall, the new Prince of Persia is a good game. It has luscious graphics and animations, especially when you heal the fertile grounds. However, it is let down the same way Assassin's Creed was let down, it is overly repetitive and it doesn't allow for skill to complete the game, but opts for a a quick-time event styled press a button and let the animations do the rest. Elika is a nice addition but could be used more, and being able to play her in a co-op mode would be fantastic, more so when you are fighting the Corrupted. The story is simplistic and won’t win any awards, with the voice typically American. I'm sorry but when did a Persian Prince have a Yank accent.

I was looking forward to this game greatly as I loved the previous incarnation of the Prince, but with new incarnation I am unfortunately disappointed. Its too simplistic and repetitive and no replayability in it. The other problem is it has the potential to be a much better game. I would recommend people to play it if they have never played previous Prince of Persia Games, but to true fans of the series be warned...
